According to the St. Pete Times (Saturday, July 24, 2004) more than 1000 third graders in Pinellas and 1,154 students in Hillsborough Counties will not be advanced to the fourth grade. They are victims of the FCAT test. This is the same number as 2003!

 

This is the second year Florida third-graders who fail the reading portion of the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test face retention. Across the state, 45,000 third-graders—or more than one in five—flunked this year.

 

More than 8,000 of them failed for the second year in a row!
