Students with Books and Computer Many students go through their school years never quite mastering the basic listening and language skills that are key to success in the classroom.

Fast ForWord® Middle & High School software is a suite of computer-based exercises that rapidly reinforces and upgrades the foundational skills that lead to fluent reading and communication for older students.

Based on over 25 years of research on how the brain learns, the Fast ForWord Middle & High School exercises use patented technology to develop oral language and listening skills. The software's fun, focused exercises help students quickly and efficiently make dramatic, lasting gains in the skills that will help them read, communicate and learn in all aspects of school.

With Fast ForWord Middle & High School software, students build the listening comprehension and language skills that make other learning skills easier to acquire, ultimately leading to improved focus, recall, reasoning and organizational skills.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Students at computers listen through headphones and use the computer mouse as they interact with the exercises of Fast ForWord® Middle & High School software. With each click of the mouse, Fast ForWord Middle & High School software adapts to the individual student's progress, providing efficient, targeted skill development.

What skills are developed?

Fast ForWord Middle & High School software develops the language and listening skills that give students the solid foundation they need to become better readers, including:

How long does Fast ForWord Middle & High School software take to complete?

Fast ForWord Middle & High School software was designed to help students make lasting improvements quickly and efficiently. Students using the software follow one of two intensive schedules:

  • 90 minutes a day, five days a week, for 4-8 weeks

OR

  • 48 minutes a day, five days a week, for 8-12 weeks

By following either the 90-Minute Protocol or the 48-Minute Protocol, students can achieve maximum success.

Fast ForWord Middle & High School Exercises

Stories

Stories: After listening to a story, students answer questions, identify story details and follow directions, developing word recognition and listening comprehension skills.

 

Ids

Ids: After hearing a pair of similar sounding phonemes, students must recognize the subtle difference in sounds, a crucial skill for effective listening and understanding.

 

Cards

Cards: Students hear a word and must identify the matching picture, improving the word recognition and decoding skills that are crucial for fluent reading.
